Event Terms
These terms apply when you book, join a waitlist, attend, or take part in a Small Plates Speed Date event.
Small Plates Speed Date is a hosted dining event designed to help single people meet in a relaxed, respectful and intentional setting. Each event may have its own age range, format, ticket categories, venue, inclusions and running schedule.
By booking or attending, you agree to these event terms, the event details shown at the time of booking, and any ticketing terms that apply through Eventfinda.
1. Event organiser
Small Plates Speed Date events are organised by Julian Bishop / JB Services, trading as Small Plates Speed Date / SpeedDate NZ.
Eventfinda may be used as the ticketing platform. Eventfinda's own ticketing terms may apply to ticket purchase, payment processing and ticket delivery. These event terms apply to the running of the Small Plates Speed Date event itself.
2. Event format
Small Plates Speed Date is a hosted dining experience built around small plates, conversation rounds and a planned seating or rotation format.
Each event is intentionally limited in size and may be grouped by age range, location and event format. The number of guests, rounds, plates and introductions may vary depending on the event, venue arrangements, guest numbers, cancellations, late arrivals, dietary requirements or other practical considerations.
We make reasonable efforts to deliver the advertised event experience, but we do not guarantee that every guest will meet every other eligible attendee, that every introduction will be new, that exact equal numbers will attend on the night, or that any introduction will lead to mutual interest, further contact or a match.
3. Age range and event suitability
Each event may be advertised for a particular age range or connection format. By booking, you confirm that the ticket you purchase is suitable for you and that the information you provide is accurate.
If you book into an event that is not suitable for you, we may contact you to discuss your booking. Where appropriate, we may transfer your booking to a more suitable event, place you on a waitlist, or cancel the booking and process any refund in accordance with these terms and applicable law.
4. Ticket categories and balanced numbers
Some events use separate ticket categories to help create a balanced hosted experience. For example, an event may include ticket categories such as "man wanting to meet women" and "woman wanting to meet men".
Ticket numbers may be limited within each category, even if the overall event is not sold out. This helps us manage seating, rotation and the quality of introductions.
We make reasonable efforts to maintain suitable numbers, but exact equal attendance cannot be guaranteed because guests may cancel, arrive late, leave early or not attend.
5. Waitlists and future-event interest lists
If your preferred ticket category is full, you may be able to join a waitlist. Joining a waitlist does not reserve a ticket and does not guarantee a place at the event.
We may contact suitable waitlisted guests if a place becomes available. Where numbers are carefully balanced, places may be offered based on event fit rather than the exact order in which people joined the waitlist.
We may also offer a future-event interest list for people interested in different age ranges, locations or event formats. Joining an interest list does not guarantee that a future event will be created.
6. Event confirmation
Small Plates Speed Date events depend on suitable booking numbers. We may wait until closer to the event date before confirming that the event will proceed.
If suitable numbers are not reached, we may cancel, postpone or adjust the event format. If the event is cancelled because suitable numbers are not reached, paid ticket holders will be offered a refund or transfer in accordance with these terms and applicable law.
7. Event changes
We may make reasonable adjustments to the event format, running order, seating plan, rotation structure, menu sequence, number of introductions or other event details where needed to preserve the quality, safety or practicality of the event.
A change does not automatically entitle a guest to a refund unless the change materially alters the nature of the event, the event is cancelled, or a refund is required under New Zealand law.
8. Cancellations by us
If we cancel an event, ticket holders will be entitled to a refund in accordance with Eventfinda's process and New Zealand law.
Where available, we may also offer the option to transfer to another suitable Small Plates Speed Date event. You are not required to accept a transfer instead of a refund where the event has been cancelled.
9. Postponed or rescheduled events
If an event is postponed or rescheduled, your ticket will remain valid for the replacement date.
If the new date does not suit you, you may request a refund or transfer, subject to Eventfinda's ticketing process and applicable New Zealand law.
10. Guest cancellations
If you can no longer attend, please let us know as early as possible. Each booking affects catering, seating plans, ticket-category balance and the experience of other guests.
Unless otherwise stated on the Eventfinda listing:
- cancellations more than 14 days before the event may be eligible for a refund or transfer, less any non-refundable ticketing or processing costs where lawful;
- cancellations between 7 and 14 days before the event may be eligible for a one-time transfer if a suitable future event is available;
- cancellations less than 7 days before the event are not normally refundable because catering, seating and event planning may already be committed;
- non-attendance or late arrival is not normally refundable.
Where we can fill your place from the appropriate waitlist, we may choose to offer a refund, credit or transfer even where the usual cancellation period has passed.
Nothing in this section limits any rights you may have under New Zealand law.
11. No-shows, late arrivals and imbalance on the night
Please arrive by the advertised check-in time. If you arrive late, we may not be able to include you in every round or introduction.
If a confirmed guest does not attend, arrives late, leaves early or becomes unable to participate, the host may adjust the seating plan, rotation format, number of introductions or group arrangement.
Where a last-minute attendance change significantly affects the experience provided to a guest, we may offer an appropriate goodwill remedy, such as a partial credit, priority booking or transfer opportunity. Any such remedy will be assessed fairly based on the circumstances and does not limit your rights under New Zealand law.
12. Food, dietary requirements and allergies
The event may include small plates and a welcome drink, as described in the event listing. Please provide dietary requirements when booking. We will pass relevant dietary information to the venue for event preparation.
Dietary requests must be received by the stated cutoff time. For the Taupō Cobb & Co event, menu variation requests should be provided by the advertised deadline, currently expected to be Monday midday before the event.
We will make reasonable efforts to support common dietary requirements, but menu changes cannot always be guaranteed. Guests with serious allergies or medical dietary needs should contact us before booking or as early as possible so we can confirm what can reasonably be arranged with the venue.
The venue is responsible for food preparation and service. Guests with severe allergies should also make their needs known to venue staff on arrival.
13. Alcohol and welcome drink
Where a welcome drink is included, non-alcoholic options will be available.
Alcohol service is subject to the venue's licence obligations and host or venue discretion. Guests are expected to drink responsibly. Excessive intoxication, unsafe conduct or behaviour that disrupts the event may result in a guest being refused further service, removed from the event, or declined future bookings.
14. Seating, rotations and introductions
Seating and rotation plans are arranged by the event host. The host may adjust the plan before or during the event to manage guest numbers, late arrivals, cancellations, comfort, safety, venue requirements or the overall experience.
For returning guests, we may make reasonable efforts to reduce repeat introductions where practical. However, repeat introductions may still occur, especially in smaller communities, narrower age ranges or events with returning attendees.
You may privately tell us if you prefer not to be seated with a particular guest again. We will manage reasonable requests discreetly, subject to privacy and safety considerations.
15. Mutual matching and contact sharing
After the event, we may offer a mutual matching or connection process.
If this process is offered, guests may privately indicate who they would be comfortable reconnecting with. Contact details will only be shared where appropriate consent has been given and, where applicable, interest is mutual.
We do not tell guests about one-sided selections unless the process clearly says otherwise. Attending an event does not require you to share contact details, continue communication, accept a match or agree to another meeting.
16. Respectful behaviour, consent and safety
Small Plates Speed Date is designed to be relaxed, respectful and safe.
By booking or attending, you agree to treat other guests, venue staff and event hosts with courtesy and respect. You must respect personal boundaries, accept another person's choices gracefully, and avoid behaviour that could make another guest feel pressured, unsafe or uncomfortable.
The following behaviour is not acceptable:
- unwanted physical contact or sexual attention;
- repeated requests for contact, a phone number, social media or another date after someone has declined;
- aggressive, threatening, abusive, discriminatory or disruptive behaviour;
- excessive intoxication affecting the comfort or safety of others;
- photographing, filming, recording or publicly identifying another attendee without permission;
- sharing another guest's personal details, attendance or conversation without consent.
If something concerns you during an event, please speak privately with the host. Concerns raised after an event will also be taken seriously and handled as confidentially as reasonably possible.
We reserve the right, acting reasonably, to refuse entry, ask a guest to leave, cancel a booking or decline future bookings where necessary to protect guest safety, privacy, wellbeing, venue requirements or the intended event experience.
Where a guest is refused entry or removed because of serious misconduct or safety concerns, a refund will not normally be available, except where required by law.
17. Photography and promotion
Because this is a dating event, we will not use identifiable photos or videos of guests for promotion without consent.
We may take general atmosphere photos of food, venue styling, table settings, signage or non-identifiable event moments.
If event photography is planned, guests will be told and may opt out of identifiable photography.
18. Privacy and event records
We collect personal information needed to manage bookings, communicate with guests, run the event safely, provide dietary and accessibility information to the venue where needed, manage seating and introductions, and improve future events.
This may include your name, contact details, ticket type, age-band confirmation, dietary requirements, accessibility needs, event attendance, introduction history, mutual-match choices, waitlist status, and limited safety or conduct notes where necessary.
We may use attendance and introduction history to help reduce unnecessary repeat introductions at future events where practical. We do not guarantee that every future introduction will be new.
We handle personal information in accordance with our Privacy Policy and the Privacy Act 2020.
19. Marketing and future-event contact
Booking an event allows us to send you necessary information about that booking, including confirmation, reminders, event updates, cancellation notices and post-event follow-up.
We will only send you promotional messages about future events where we have consent or another lawful basis to do so. You can unsubscribe from marketing messages.
Unsubscribing from marketing will not stop necessary messages about an event you have already booked.
20. Ticket transfers and resale
Tickets may not be transferred, resold or gifted to another person without our approval. This is because events are planned around age range, guest suitability, ticket-category balance, seating, safety and dietary requirements.
If you want to transfer a ticket, please contact us. Any replacement guest must provide accurate booking information and meet the advertised event requirements.
21. Complaints or concerns
If you have a concern before, during or after an event, please contact us directly.
We will handle concerns as discreetly as reasonably possible. Depending on the circumstances, we may speak with those involved, adjust seating, prevent future contact sharing, decline future bookings, or take other reasonable steps.
We may not always be able to tell you the outcome of action taken about another guest because we must also respect privacy obligations.
22. No guarantee of outcome
Small Plates Speed Date provides a hosted opportunity to meet other people in a structured and respectful setting.
We do not guarantee attraction, compatibility, mutual interest, a match, further contact, a date or a relationship.
23. Your consumer rights
Nothing in these terms limits any rights you may have under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993, the Fair Trading Act 1986, the Privacy Act 2020, the Human Rights Act 1993 or any other applicable New Zealand law.
